Setelah menjajal Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, baru beberapa hari kemarin saya menemukan sedikit masalah, modem Smartfren EC1261-2 saya tiba-tiba tidak terdeteksi, setelha cukup pusing, akhirnya saya teringat trik ketika dulu menggunakan ubuntu 10.04 LTS, kita harus menambahkan usb-modeswitch-data dan usb-modeswitch beserta dengan teman-temannya yang sudah saya tidak ingat lagi. Tapi pada ubuntu 12.04 LTS sedikit berbeda, kita sudah tidak perlu lagi menginstall paket tersebut karena paket-paket tersebut telah terinstall dengan versi yang terbaru.

Nah, untuk sobat yang mengalami masalah yang sama, berikut cara agar modem kesayangan kita bisa dideteksi oleh ubuntu 12.04.

1. Cek modem pada daftar USB yang dikenali oleh ubuntu terlebiih dahulu dengan mengetikkan pada terminal
lsusb
hasil yang saya dapatkan pada laptop saya adalah Bus 002 Device 004: ID 12d1:1505 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
2.  Buat file 12d1:1505 pada folder /etc/usb_modeswitch.d dengan mengetikkan
sudo gedit /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1:1505
copylah scrip berikut pada file tersebut, dan jangan lupa untuk di save

copy dan save script berikut kedalam file, letakkan setelah tulisan LABEL=”modeswitch_rules_begin”.

4. Dan yang terakhir adalah mendetek modem kita, dengan mengetikkan perintah.
